The Funeral Party - Biography

Funeral Party was formed in late October 2004 by singer Chad Elliott and guitarist James Lawrence, along with original bassist Stefan Melcher. All three grew up in the very assiduous city of Whittier. They recruited one of Chad's friends, drummer Timothy Madrid. After a few months, Stephan's DJ career blossomed and he left Funeral Party. They recruited bassist Kimo Kauhoala, long time friend of Tim and Chad. The four set out to quell every other band around, or at least get everyone to hear their music. In the late spring of 2005 the group released their first e.p. titled, Shoot Me Off My Feet, which they recorded with producer Lars Stalfors (Mars Volta.) In 2006, the boys met Bennett Management, who brought decades of concert production, recording, and touring experience to the table, allowing the boys to focus solely on music while management began structuring the Funeral Party organization. After a few more months the clique was still not satisfied with their sound. They felt it was lacking an essential element: their Latin musical roots. James felt it necessary to really imbue their sound with percussion and other sounds. The key to unlocking a vast musical heritage, while locking in the Funeral Party sound, was found in keyboardist/percussionist Danny Santillan. The band continued to develop and hone their unique voice, and was determined to bring the East L.A. (and surrounding areas) scene to the public's attention. Funeral Party would like to thank all of the fans for supporting them. Funeral Party is currently in the studio with producer David Corcos and sometimes performs with percussion powerhouse, Alfredo Ortiz, who tours with some of the biggest bands in the world (most of them, in fact).
